Crafty Christmas Angel Evening

Come and celebrate Christmas at Studio 8-4-4!!!  I’m delighted to be invited along with 2 other special guest artists Gilli Slater, & Jayne Lancaster to run a festive workshop.

There will be artwork for sale and festive food and drinks making this is great opportunity to get creative, have some festive fun and do a little gift shopping at the same time.

Book of Birds & Flowers Workshop

Thursday 10th Oct 10.30 – 4:00 pm

£65 per person including all refreshments

You will create a garden of decorative sculptural flowers and birds using wire, fabric, paper and paint. Then arrange your collection and add them to a vintage book base creating a stunning garden of flowers that lasts forever. They can be decorated however you wish using trimmings, buttons and hand-stitch. All abilities welcome and materials provided, just bring an unwanted book!

Mini Teapots & Cups in Wire Workshop

During this workshop Priscilla will share her techniques and process showing you the vast possibilities of working with wire to create your own sculptures. You will learn how to manipulate lightweight wire using your fingers / pliers and then embellish your pieces with fabric, wax, and stitch. No experience necessary, all materials provided – all you need to bring is your enthusiasm!

Mixed Media Embroidered Hanging Weekend

Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th March 10.30 – 4:00 pm

£130 per person including all refreshments

Using various fabrics, acrylic paints and machine stitch you will create a contemporary free machine embroidered hanging for your wall. During the 2 day course you will explore a range of techniques to enable you to produce a finished piece that is personal and will reflect your own ideas.

Day 1 – You will have a fun day experimenting with the possibilities of mixing media buy painting and printing on your fabrics ready to stitch together in your desired composition.Using various fabrics, acrylic paints and machine stitch you will create a contemporary free machine embroidered hanging for your wall. During the 2 day course you will explore a range of techniques to enable you to produce a finished piece that is personal and will reflect your own ideas.

Day 2 – Priscilla will guide you through the process of creating an image from your painted and printed fabrics – drawing on her vast experience of combining colour, shape and texture. She will then demonstrate the joy of drawing with stitch to embellish your creations and share tips on how machine embroidery can add new surface qualities to your textile art!

This is fantastic workshop for anyone who would like to explore a mixed media approach to stitched textiles and develop new ways of working. Some sewing experience would be an advantage but not necessary. Please bring your sewing machine with a free embroidery facility,  plus a collection of fabrics you wish to work with.  All other materials are provided in the course fee.

Northern Collective Exhibition

Meet the Artists Event 2-4pm Sunday 14th October

We are delighted to have our first group exhibition, as the Northern Collective, in the Circle Gallery at the prestigious Theatre by the Lake in Keswick, a cultural gem situated by the dramatic lakeside of Derwentwater.

The Northern Collective is made up of 16 artists from Cumbria and beyond regularly meeting to observe, be inspired by and make drawings in a variety of venues, ranging from Lake District landscapes to cultural sites such as Abbot Hall Gallery and Sprint Mill, Burneside and its unique collection of local memorabilia. The artists will showcase a rich diversity of themes and artistic processes including painting, printmaking, textiles, collage and assemblage. As well as expansive landscape forms, themes explored in the Northern Collective include plant structures, texture and surface markings, and flora and fauna found in the natural environment.
