Mixed Media Textile Master Class

Do you ever feel like you can’t find the inspiration you are looking for to develop your practice? Using a mixed media approach could be the way forward to enable your creativity to flow in a variety of new and exciting ways. Award winning artist Priscilla Jones has spent the last 20 years exploring the endless possibilities of working with both fabric and paper within her practice. Priscilla’s work remains firmly rooted in textiles but also encompassing a wealth of techniques and processes that focus on changing and manipulating materials.

During this workshop Priscilla will take you on a journey of discovery, experimenting and exploring the endless possibilities of working with a lots of different of techniques. These include how to use wax and paint to change surfaces and wire and stitch to create interesting joining’s and edge treatments for your papers and fabrics.

On day one you will start by exploring how to colour, paint, wax, manipulate and stitch your papers and fabrics together creating a variety of mixed media surfaces to use on day 2 to create a finished piece/s.

On day two you will explore how to manipulate your materials further and develop your ideas towards making a finished piece to be mounted and framed or applied to a canvas.

Sketchbook and Journal Making

10 – 4pm

Create your very own sketchbook or journal using a range of different papers and fabrics. Each of your pages will be assembled using collage, mixed media and stitch making the book totally unique and personal. You will than learn how to build your book creating a hard cover and use simple Japanese binding techniques to join your pages.

This is a great way to experiment with techniques such as stitch, collage and surface decoration to make something that is personal to you. Once your range of sheets is complete you start the exciting process of putting your papers and fabrics together and learn how to assemble them into the form of a book. You can make any size of scrap-book you wish and create it for a special purpose either to keep all those important bits and bobs you can never find a place for, perhaps a scrap book, or maybe a photograph album the choice is yours….! No experience necessary just bring enthusiasm.
